28/09 - 02/10 Budapest, Hungary

Small facts I discovered about Budapest - everywhere you turn there is an elaborate castle, temple, bath or bridge to gaze at, the locals are friendly, the food is decent, there is a lot of poverty and their money makes you feel like a high roller!

Day 1 - 2.5 hour train ride from Vienna and we arrive at our Hostel - Big Fish, a small homely place with a big kitchen and loft style bedrooms. We freshen up, dump our bags and we're off to find dinner. We find an oldies pub and after a 50 min wait on mains the food arrives, I chose the national dish called Goulash - a tomato soup served with meat and veggies, so good!! Off to bed early for some sight seeing tomorrow!

Day 2 - Early wake up, home made breakfast in our kitchen and it's time to start our adventures. First stop is the Terror Museum - which focuses on the crimes and atrocities committed by Hungary's fascist and Stalinist regimes - can't put into words how you feel after taking it all in, vacant would probably be most accurate. From here we walked to heroes square - a sprawling monument constructed to honor the millennial anniversary of the magyar conquest of the Carpathian Basin! It's height, structure and magnificence is something to be very impressed about. We then explored City Park, found exciting looking castles and ate giant fairy floss!!

Day 3 - Not so decent sleep, hop on hop off bus tour booked for today and tomorrow and we feel ready for some exploring. We ventured around and learnt about the Jewish Synagogue, Parliament House, Hungarian state Opera House, Gallert Baths, Memento Park, Citadella, Siklo Royal Palace, Fishermen's Sastion, Castle Hill and Matthias Church! First day down and back to our hostel to get ready for a crazy night out with old school mates! We reluctantly hop on the jaeger train, literally - a train made of 285 jaeger bombs, 10 bombs each and we set off to the next bar but our night was short lived, with a side of vomit and maccas, good night!

Day 4 - Back on the hop on hop off bus we explored the city markets, eat fresh fruit and veggies and make our way to Gallert Baths for hot spring bathing and saunas!
After a big day we had a Mexican dinner to farewell our budapest adventures and an early night in for a 7hr train ride to Prague tomorrow!
